The White House was placed under a brief lockdown Saturday evening after shots were reported near the grounds.

Secret Service officers responded to the incident at 17th and Pennsylvania Avenue, Northwest, just 300 meters from the White House. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the agency is on scene supporting the Secret Service.

ABC News Chief White House Correspondent Selina Wang reported hearing what sounded like dozens of gunshots while filming on the North Lawn, stating she and staff were directed to sprint to the press briefing room.

U.S. media said roughly 20 to 30 shots were fired. CNN reported two people were wounded.

The event came about a month after the White House correspondents' dinner, where reporters and Trump administration officials took cover from nearby gunfire.
