Hamas has dissolved the emergency committee that has governed the Gaza Strip since 2007, a major political shift announced on Monday.

The move formally cedes day-to-day administrative control to the National Committee for Administration of Gaza (NCAG), a technocratic body established by the Board of Peace created during former US President Donald Trump's ceasefire mediation.

Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem stated the decision was made to remove pretexts for continued Israeli military operations. The group has signaled its readiness to hand over governmental responsibilities to the NCAG, headed by Palestinian technocrat Ali Shaath.

However, critical issues stall full implementation. The NCAG has not yet entered Gaza due to Israeli objections. The broader ceasefire's second phase-which involves Hamas disarmament and an Israeli military withdrawal-remains deadlocked.

Israeli forces control nearly 70% of Gaza, while Hamas insists a functioning Palestinian administration must be established before it considers disarmament. The future governance of Gaza remains a primary obstacle in negotiations.
