Indonesia has reached an agreement with India to acquire the BrahMos missile system, according to the nation's defense ministry. This procurement is a key component of Indonesia's military hardware modernization, specifically targeting enhanced maritime defense capabilities.

The deal is expected to significantly bolster Indonesia's deterrence capabilities and aid in safeguarding national sovereignty. While the total value of the agreement was not disclosed, previous reports indicated discussions for a deal ranging from US$200 million to US$350 million. This marks a significant step in strengthening the strategic defense partnership between Indonesia and India.

The BrahMos missile system, a joint venture between India and Russia, offers versatile deployment options including land-based, air, ship-based, and submarine-based versions. The Philippines previously secured a shore-based anti-ship missile system from BrahMos in 2022 for approximately US$375 million.
