Israel has begun withdrawing forces from select parts of its buffer zone in southern Lebanon. The Lebanese Army is deploying into these areas under a pilot program negotiated by the United States.

The U.S. is training and vetting Lebanese troops to ensure they have no affiliations with Hezbollah, the Iran-backed militant group that has been Israel's primary adversary in the region. Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon announced plans to eventually pull back to the Litani River, roughly 30 km north of the border.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the buffer zone, covering approximately 6% of Lebanese territory, will remain as long as he leads the government. Expanding evacuation orders continue to restrict civilian re-entry, adding pressure for a resolution.
