John Smart, a former Olympic freestyle skier for Canada, lost his son Kai, 23, to injuries sustained in an avalanche in Japan. Kai was left in a coma and later passed away despite efforts to save him in Vancouver.
John remembers Kai as an adventurer who lived life to the fullest. He was a passionate skier, surfer, and climber, always seeking new experiences. Kai's organs were donated to four people.
John Smart competed in the 1992 and 1994 Winter Olympics and was inducted into the Canadian Ski Hall of Fame in 2003.
