The Canada Border Services Agency intercepted approximately 250 kilograms of suspected cocaine at the port in Halifax. The drugs were found wrapped in carbon paper and concealed within flatbread.
The shipment originated from the Dominican Republic. Officers flagged it for inspection on Sunday, using X-ray technology at the Africville Seasides Marine Container Examination Facility to detect the substance. Field tests confirmed it as suspected cocaine.
The CBSA seized the packages and referred the investigation to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Authorities allege the importer is a 58-year-old man from Montreal, who conspired with two individuals from Ontario. All three have been arrested and face drug trafficking-related charges. They are scheduled to appear in court next Wednesday in Newmarket, Ontario.
