A Pakistani court sentenced a man to death Tuesday for murdering a teenage influencer who had repeatedly rejected his advances.

22-year-old Umar Hayat was sentenced to death and fined $7,200 for the murder of 17-year-old TikTok star Sana Yousaf in June. The shooting occurred at her home in Islamabad, according to police and family.

Yousaf had millions of followers on social media, where she posted about food, fashion, and skincare, and openly discussed relationship problems-a topic still considered taboo in the Muslim-majority country.

News of her killing sparked an outpouring of comments on her final post-a birthday video. While many offered condolences, some users blamed the teenager, writing comments such as: "You reap what you sow" and "It's deserved, she was tarnishing Islam."

TikTok is immensely popular in Pakistan, but the government has suspended it several times over content concerns. Violence against women remains pervasive in the country.
