North Korean leader Kim Jong Un declared that the future of North Korea-U.S. relations rests entirely on Washington's disposition. He also indicated no engagement with South Korea. KCNA reported that Pyongyang held a military parade on Wednesday night to mark the conclusion of the ruling Workers' Party's Ninth Congress.
Kim outlined major policy objectives for the next five years, emphasizing the strengthening of North Korea's nuclear force. He stated plans to increase the number of nuclear weapons and expand their operational capabilities. "If the US withdraws its policy of confrontation with North Korea by respecting our country's current status ... there is no reason why we cannot get along well with the US," Kim said.
This comes as Kim has previously not accepted overtures from former US President Donald Trump. Meanwhile, Kim labeled South Korea the "most hostile enemy" and dismissed discussions with Seoul, warning of "arbitrary action" if South Korea engages in "obnoxious behavior." He added that "South Korea's complete collapse cannot be ruled out."
