New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani has ordered a complete shutdown of the city's traffic network, restricting all travel except for emergencies, ahead of a significant snowstorm.

The ban, effective from Sunday evening to Monday noon, prohibits all cars, trucks, scooters, and e-bikes, excluding essential workers and those with emergency needs. This measure comes as the city braces for its most severe storm in a decade, with forecasts predicting over 30 centimeters of snow for the Northeast.

Blizzard warnings are in effect for New York and at least six other states along the Interstate 95 corridor, with heavy snow and strong winds expected. Meteorologists warn of snowfall rates exceeding 2.5 centimeters per hour, potentially causing widespread power outages and making travel nearly impossible. This follows a severe winter storm in late January that resulted in over 100 national deaths.
