The leader of an international pro-life group has criticized a proposed UK bill that would remove criminal liability for women undergoing abortions at any stage of pregnancy. Shawn Carney of 40 Days for Life called the measure 'absolutely absurd,' noting that most European countries limit abortions to 12 weeks, while England currently allows them up to 24 weeks.

The bill, now in its final stages in the House of Lords, includes a provision that would protect women from prosecution for ending pregnancies at any gestation, even though the legal threshold is currently 24 weeks. Doctors and others assisting in late-term abortions without medical necessity could still face charges.

Carney argued that the measure could normalize abortion, making it socially acceptable at earlier stages. He called the bill 'insane' and warned it could set a dangerous precedent across Europe.
