Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine are holding a news briefing Tuesday morning as airstrikes continued overnight in the Middle East. Iran launched new attacks at Gulf Arab countries, while Israeli strikes also hit southern and eastern Lebanon overnight.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated Iran is prepared to continue attacking Israel with missiles "as long as needed and as long as it takes." The U.S. military reported striking over 3,000 Iranian targets in the first week of operations, with seven American service members having died in the conflict.
President Trump indicated the "war is very complete, pretty much," asserting "there's nothing left in a military sense." However, the Defense Department posted a social media video with the caption "We have Only Just Begun to Fight."
Secretary Hegseth commented that President Trump's stance on unconditional surrender signifies the U.S. is "fightin' to win" and will "set the terms." He added, "This is war. This is conflict. This is bringing your enemy to their knees."
Amid the uncertainty, oil prices swung wildly Monday, reaching $119 a barrel, the highest point since 2022. President Trump also raised the possibility of taking over the Strait of Hormuz if Iran attempts to block the vital waterway.
