Russian President Vladimir Putin declared a 32-hour ceasefire in Ukraine for the Orthodox Easter weekend. The decree orders Russian forces to cease hostilities starting Saturday at 4 p.m. and lasting through Sunday.
This follows an earlier call by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for a pause in fighting to observe the holiday. Zelenskyy had proposed that both sides avoid targeting energy infrastructure. Previous ceasefire attempts have had limited success, with both sides accusing each other of violations.
The Kremlin stated that troops are to be prepared for any enemy provocations. There was no immediate reaction from Kyiv to Putin's announcement.
