Russia has carried out its largest aerial attack over a two-day period since the start of the war, launching 1,567 drones into Ukraine, officials said Thursday. At least 27 civilians were killed.
Kyiv was the primary target. Ukraine's State Emergency Services reported at least 21 killed in the capital, including three children. Mayor Vitali Klitschko declared a day of mourning.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed Russian President Vladimir Putin's claim that the war was "coming to an end." Zelenskyy said the scale of this assault proves the opposite, and urged international partners to continue supporting Ukraine's air defenses.
Over 1,500 rescue workers were deployed nationwide. In Kharkiv, 28 people, including three children, were wounded. Energy supplies were disrupted across 11 regions. The assault came as President Donald Trump visited China, prompting Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha to urge Washington and Beijing to leverage pressure on Moscow to end the conflict.
