Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the U.S. must re-evaluate its relationship with NATO following European allies’ refusal to grant U.S. military access to bases.

Speaking on Fox News, Rubio emphasized that the current NATO alliance may no longer serve American strategic interests if member states block the use of military infrastructure during operations such as the ongoing conflict with Iran.

"If NATO becomes a one-way street where we cannot defend our own interests using these facilities, then the alliance needs serious reconsideration," Rubio stated.

His remarks follow reports that Italy denied landing rights to a U.S. combat aircraft and Spain closed airspace to U.S. missions targeting Iran.

Rubio noted he previously supported NATO for its strategic value but stressed that changing dynamics require fresh assessment by President Donald Trump’s administration.
