San Diego police are investigating a possible hate crime after a shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego left five dead, including the two suspected gunmen.

On Monday, shortly before noon local time, two teenage males opened fire outside the mosque, killing three men, including a security guard. Police Chief Scott Wahl credited the guard with potentially preventing further casualties. All children at a day school on the complex are safe.

Police later found the suspects, ages 17 and 19, dead in a vehicle from self-inflicted gunshot wounds. A separate shooting at a landscaper nearby caused no injuries. The FBI is assisting the investigation.
