Andrés Hurtado was sightseeing in Seville when he found a painting discarded on the pavement. He took it, drawn only to its frame.

Back at his hotel, doubts emerged about the artwork's authenticity. In 2026, he did what many would: he consulted an artificial intelligence tool. The response suggested it could be a genuine piece by the famed Spanish painter Joaquín Sorolla.

Hurtado, currently unemployed, even approached an auction house which reportedly offered thousands of euros. However, the painting was officially missing; its owners had accidentally left it behind during a hurried move to their beach house and had alerted police.

Upon learning this, Hurtado contacted authorities. He transported the work back to his home near Murcia. Police are scheduled to collect it this Wednesday for its return. The grateful owner promised Hurtado a gift for his honesty.
