US President Donald Trump has called off a planned military attack on Iran, following requests from the leaders of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that "serious negotiations are now taking place" and that he was informed a deal acceptable to the US was possible, adding emphatically, "There will be NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS FOR IRAN!"
However, Trump warned that the US military remains prepared to launch a "full, large scale assault of Iran, on a moment's notice" should talks fail. Tehran has not publicly responded. The announcement comes after US and Israeli forces began massive air strikes on Iran in late February, with Iran retaliating against US and Israeli targets. A ceasefire in April has largely held, but Iran continues to control the Strait of Hormuz, disrupting global oil shipments and driving energy prices higher.
