President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed Thursday that the Strait of Hormuz "must remain open" and that Iran "can never have a nuclear weapon," according to a White House readout of their meeting in Beijing.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said China has an interest in resolving the Iran conflict's impact on oil shipments. The readout made no mention of Taiwan, though Chinese media report Xi raised the topic.
Meanwhile, a ship was seized off the UAE coast and is headed toward Iranian waters. The UK Maritime Trade Operations center said the vessel was taken 38 nautical miles northeast of Fujairah. Iran has largely blocked shipping through the strait since the outbreak of war on February 28.
In a separate development, a Hezbollah drone strike wounded several Israeli civilians on Thursday, hours before U.S.-brokered talks between Israel and Lebanon were set to begin in Washington.
