U.S. President Donald Trump is considering withdrawing from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), calling the 77-year-old military alliance a “paper tiger.” In an interview with the Telegraph, Trump expressed frustration with allies' lack of support in the ongoing conflict with Iran.

He cited the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz-a key global oil route-as evidence of NATO’s failure to act. The U.S. has launched multiple operations in the region, seeking to reopen the strait after Iran escalated attacks on shipping lanes.

Trump accused European allies of failing to respond to U.S. requests for assistance. He contrasted this with past U.S. support for Ukraine during Russia’s invasion, saying America stood firm when others did not.

Despite increased defense spending by some NATO members-including Canada reaching its 2% GDP target-Trump maintains the alliance lacks real strategic value. He also claimed Iran’s leadership seeks a ceasefire before addressing the nation, though Tehran rejected any external pressure.
