At least 16 people were injured after an ex-student opened fire at a high school in south-eastern Türkiye.
An ex-student opened fire at his former high school Tuesday (Apr 14) in Türkiye, wounding 16 people, including students, before killing himself in a confrontation with police. The incident occurred in the Siverek district of the southeastern province of Sanliurfa. Officials stated the attacker, born in 2007, used a pump-action shotgun. Among the injured were 10 students, four teachers, one police officer, and one cafeteria operator. The governor confirmed the school was evacuated and an investigation is underway. School shootings are rare in Türkiye, though a previous incident in May 2024 saw a former student kill a principal in Istanbul.
