President Donald Trump announced Saturday that a draft framework for an agreement with Iran has been "largely negotiated" and is "subject to finalisation." In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the deal includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ending the US blockade of Iranian ports, with final details to be announced "shortly."
Trump held a "very good call" with leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, and other regional powers, as well as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The negotiations, led by Pakistan, also involve a two-month timeline for discussions on Iran's nuclear program once the war ends.
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei confirmed the draft is a "framework agreement" and said over the past week "the trend has been toward narrowing differences." He added that nuclear issues are not part of the current talks-Tehran insists on ending the war first before discussing its nuclear program.
The conflict began on February 28 with US and Israeli strikes on Iran, which retaliated by closing the Strait of Hormuz. The US then blockaded Iranian ports, turning away over 100 commercial vessels and disabling four since April 13.
