US President Donald Trump announced the US Navy will immediately blockade the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route, following the collapse of diplomatic talks with Iran in Islamabad. Trump stated that any vessel paying a toll to Iran would face interdiction in international waters.

US Vice President JD Vance characterized the outcome as Iran’s failure to meet clear conditions, particularly concerning its nuclear program. Vance emphasized the US demand for an affirmative commitment that Iran will not pursue nuclear weapons. He described the US proposal as its "final and best offer."

Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei acknowledged partial progress but cited unresolved issues, including the Strait of Hormuz and regional dynamics. Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, leading Iran’s negotiating effort, blamed the United States for failing to build trust, stating it was time for the US to decide if it could gain Iran’s trust.

Pakistan, which hosted the talks, urged continued engagement and dialogue between the two nations.
