The US military struck Iranian targets in response to a drone attack on a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz.
US Central Command described the strikes as a powerful response to what it called unwarranted Iranian aggression that violated a ceasefire agreement. The targeted facilities included missile and drone storage sites along with coastal radar positions.
President Donald Trump had accused Iran of a foolish violation following Thursday's attack on the commercial vessel. No casualties were reported, though the incident triggered plans to evacuate more than 11,000 sailors from the region.
The strikes came after Iran effectively closed the critical waterway in late February, disrupting global oil and fertilizer shipments. A 14-point agreement on June 17th had ended hostilities and included Iranian commitments to allow safe passage for commercial vessels.
Iran's chief negotiator recently stated that the administration of the Strait of Hormuz will never return to pre-war conditions, despite international objections to any tolling system for the waterway.
