A 16-year-old boy is under arrest following a violent attack at a secondary school in the southern German state of Bavaria.
According to police, the perpetrator deliberately targeted the Welfen grammar school in the town of Schongau. At least two girls sustained serious injuries in the incident, which a spokesperson described as a suspected "rampage." Their lives are not in danger.
Authorities are currently operating on the belief that the suspect acted alone. A major police operation, involving numerous forces and multiple helicopters, secured the area and apprehended the teenager after he briefly fled.
A contact point for parents and relatives has been established at the local fire station. The attack adds to a rare but tragic history of serious violence in German educational institutions.
