ZURICH, March 29 - A Swiss survey shows 94% of respondents support stronger protections for minors on social media. The findings come as global scrutiny intensifies over Big Tech’s impact on young users.
In Los Angeles, a jury recently found Meta and Google negligent for designing platforms harmful to youth. This ruling may influence future litigation.
The poll, conducted by GfS Bern for the Mercator Foundation, also revealed that 78% believe tech giants wield excessive influence over public opinion.
Swiss Interior Minister Elisabeth Baume-Schneider has signaled openness to banning social media for children. Her government is drafting new regulations to increase transparency among major online platforms.
This comes after neighboring Austria announced plans to ban social media use for children under 14.
The survey questioned 1,000 Swiss residents aged 16 and above, with a margin of error of ±3.2 percentage points.
