A Look at Marvel's Phase 5 and Phase 6 After D23's Big Reveals

Marvel's Cinematic Universe is evolving again, and the next stretch of releases for Phases 5 and 6 will be slightly different from what was announced back in 2022. CNET was there to hear new announcements from Disney's D23 event, and it all teases a thrill ride for fans of Marvel villains and superheroes alike.

Not every MCU release date has been confirmed, but fans can expect an exciting lineup of TV shows and films during the next few years, and at some point, that includes more X-Men. Deadpool 3 and Agatha All Along are welcome additions for 2024, and the future has Avengers: Secret Wars, Thunderbolts and Blade with Marvel characters like Doctor Doom and Daredevil also getting more live-action screen time. Here's a look at what else is coming down the pipeline for the MCU's Phase 5 and Phase 6 slate.

Marvel Phase 5 TV shows and movies

Agatha All Along: Kathryn Hahn reprises her role in the sequel to WandaVision that begins streaming Sept. 18 on Disney Plus. The TV series follows a powerless Agatha Harkness after she's freed from a magic spell by a teenager. Together with a makeshift coven, they undergo a set of magical trials to get what they want. Along with Hahn, Joe Locke, Sasheer Zamata, Patti LuPone and Aubrey Plaza are featured in the series.

Ironheart: Riri Williams (aka Ironheart) made her MCU debut in Wakanda Forever as the 15-year-old engineering phenom, with the spinoff show Ironheart set to premiere on Disney Plus. The superhero wears armor similar to Iron Man's, with the ability to fly, use magnetism and apply superhuman strength. The series is due out sometime in 2025, but it's unclear whether it will be connected to Phase 5 or Phase 6.

Daredevil: Born Again - Charlie Cox will don the scarlet red suit once again when Daredevil's new miniseries lands on Disney Plus in March 2025. After teasing fans with an appearance in Echo earlier this year, and previous cameos in Spider Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk, Matt Murdock will once again hit the streets as a lawyer by day and the Devil of Hell's Kitchen at night. Attendees got a first look at the new trailer during Disney's D23 event, and it didn't disappoint with shots of the Punisher (Jon Bernthal), Karen Page (played Deborah Ann Woll), Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin and Foggy.

Captain America: Brave New World: The film hits theaters Feb. 14, 2025. Anthony Mackie picks up the baton as Captain America, and viewers will also see Red Hulk. With Harrison Ford's character Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross in the movie, the story will introduce an interconnected tale for Thunderbolts, a ragtag group of bad guys who have to team up -- or else.

Thunderbolts: Hitting the screen on May 2, 2025, Thunderbolts will help usher in the summer blockbuster season while closing out Phase 5. The film features Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Sebastian Stan in a supervillain flick that throws a group of assassins together to carry out government-sanctioned missions.

Marvel Phase 6 movies and shows

Fantastic Four: First Steps: The new title was revealed during Marvel's Comic-Con showcase, and this will be the latest incarnation of the heroes on the big screen. The cast includes Pedro Pascal as Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm (nope, not Chris Evans) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Thing. The film will have a futuristic theme with a 1960s aesthetic and will drop in theaters on July 25, 2025.

Blade: The film has hit a few production snags with its creative team, including losing its director, but Mahershala Ali is still set to pick up the mantle of the warrior vampire. While a rumored release date places Blade in November 2025, it has not been confirmed that the movie will still drop next year.

Avengers: Doomsday: Robert Downey Jr. will appear as Doctor Doom in Avengers 5, which is set to have the Russo Brothers return to Marvel to direct. Due out in May 2026, the cast will include heroes from the new Fantastic Four film and Thunderbolts.

Vision TV series: No updates were given during D23, but Paul Bettany will reprise his role in what's set to be a sequel series to WandaVision. Though we don't know the release date, this show is likely to be part of Phase 6's storytelling.

Wonder Man: This one wasn't mentioned at D23, but here's what we know: Destin Daniel Cretton was tapped to develop this new Disney Plus series, which will follow Simon Williams -- aka Wonder Man -- played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen. A member of the Avengers, Wonder Man will make his official on-screen MCU debut and based on his stories in the comic books, don't be surprised if it ties in with Vision.

Avengers: Secret Wars: Also known as Avengers 6, this movie will end Phase 6 when it arrives in May 2027. Helmed by the Russo Brothers, this movie will also include the Fantastic Four, and possibly other Marvel characters like Thor, Doctor Strange, any variation of Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.
