Atletico Madrid CONFIRM £34m signing of Conor Gallagher from Chelsea

Atletico Madrid have confrimed the signing of Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher for £34million.

Gallagher looked set to finalise a move last week after agreeing personal terms before his move stalled due The Blues deal for Atletico's Samu Omorodion collapsing.

The 24-year-old returned to Cobham where he trained on his own as he waited nervously on the conclusion of the deal 

And with Joao Felix now returning to west London on a permanent deal for £42.7m, the homegrown Chelsea player has made the switch to the Spanish capital. 

The midfielder, who joined Chelsea at the age of eight, becomes Diego Simeone's fourth signing of the summer.

The England international has signed a five-year deal at the Spanish side, which will keep him at the Stadio Metropolitano until 2029.

Atletico teased the signing of the England man multiple times before unveiling him, starting with a bizarre graphic of a pitbull.

That post was then followed by a video of a motorcycle and a graphic referring to the well-known TV show 'Sons of Anarchy'.

Atletico's posts reference the fact that a section of Chelsea's support calling Gallagher a dog for his willingness to press and win the ball.

Chelsea then confirmed Gallagher's departure on social media with a video of the midfielder throughout his 18-year spell at the club.

The clip finished with a message, which says: 'As your footballing journey takes you to Atletico Madrid, you will forever be a blue.'

Gallagher made 95 appearances in all competitions while at Stamford Bridge, scoring 10 goals and 10 assists.

50 of those appearances came last season as he took the armband for the majority of the campaign due to long-term injuries sustained by both Reece James and Ben Chilwell.

During his time in blue, Gallagher picked up one trophy, the Europa League, which Chelsea won back in 2019 when he had just joined up with the senior team.
