Bayern chief admits to 'difficult' contract talks with Jamal Musiala

Musiala joined Bayern in 2019 after leaving Chelsea, but has been linked with a return to the Premier League.

Real Madrid are also believed to be keen on the 21-year-old German international who has a contract with Bayern until 2026.

Both Manchester clubs and Madrid appear to have been handed a boost in their pursuits of Musiala, with Eberl conceding that Bayern are not close to agreeing fresh terms with the attacking midfielder.

'It’s difficult, but not impossible – as Jamal knows what he has at Bayern Munich,' Eberl told Sport1 when discussing the prospect of Musiala extending his stay in Germany.

'He grew up here and has brought himself to this level. Talks are intensifying. We are extremely ambitious and he knows that he wants to win titles.'

It is understood that one of the stumbling blocks over a new deal is Musiala's wage demands, as he is seeking £300,000-a-week to put him on the same salary as Harry Kane.

Musiala addressed his future earlier this summer, insisting he was happy at Bayern, but refused to rule out a future move.

'I am very happy at FC Bayern and fully focused on our goals with the club and the national team,' he said.

'I don't think too much about where I will be playing in five years. Things can always change quickly in the world of football.'

Musiala has won four Bundesliga titles at Bayern but the German giants missed out last term as they finished third behind runaway champions Bayer Leverkusen and Stuttgart.

They have started this season in stunning form, winning their opening three matches under new manager Vincent Kompany.

Musiala already has two goals and an assist to his name, but is yet to commit his long-term future to Bayern, offering hope to potential suitors that he could be tempted away from the club over the next 12 months.
