Bizarre reason Tosin Adarabioyo was left OUT of Chelsea's Europe squad

The bizarre reason why Tosin Adarabioyo was left out of the Chelsea squad for their Europa Conference League clash with Servette has been revealed.

The Blues raised a few eyebrows with their team sheet to face the Swiss side as fans noticed the new signing had been excluded ahead of the European tie.

The centre-back made the short move across west London on a free transfer this summer after making 132 appearances for Fulham in a four-year spell at the club.

Another notable absentee was Raheem Sterling whose omission from the side to play Manchester City at the weekend led to wild speculation over his future at Stamford Bridge.

But now Adarabioyo has been added back into Chelsea's 22-man squad after it emerged that he was only left out due to an 'admin error'.

Sky Sports' Kaveh Solhekol posted on X, formerly Twitter: 'Tosin Adarabioyo added back to Chelsea UEFA squad for Europa Conference League game against Servette tomorrow.

Thursday's match at Stamford Bridge is the first of two legs between the teams in a play-off round to qualify for the Conference League group stage. The next fixture will be in Switzerland on 29 August.

Sterling was left out of the Blues' squad for a second consecutive match after being dropped for Sunday's match against the champions.

The forward joined Chelsea from Manchester City in 2022 and has since scored 19 goals in 81 games but is among the players the club look set to try and offload.

Quizzed about excluding Sterling, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca said: 'I want Raheem Sterling but we have 30 players, there is no space for all of them so some have to leave.'

He added: 'The manager has to make some decisions. Sometimes players don't like it, that's normal. Just a technical decision, no more than that. With Raheem, we will clarify in the next days.'

Sterling has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer his non-inclusion in the squad indicates his Chelsea future could lie elsewhere.

Ben Chilwell has also been left out of Thursday's side fuelling rumours that he too could be set for a move.

Chelsea were beaten by serial champions Manchester City on Sunday evening, with Mateo Kovacic (second from right) scoring the second against his former club at Stamford Bridge

Meanwhile, England colleague Conor Gallagher completed his transfer to Atletico Madrid on Wednesday after days of speculation.

The midfielder, who joined Chelsea at the age of eight, becomes Diego Simeone's fourth signing of the summer.

The England international has signed a five-year deal at the Spanish side, which will keep him at the Stadio Metropolitano until 2029.
