Brighton ask Celtic how much they want for O'Riley

Brighton have opened negotiations with Celtic over a fee for midfielder Matt O’Riley.

Atalanta and Southampton have already had bids rejected for the 23-year-old Denmark international this summer.

Now Premier League Brighton - currently in talks with Napoli over a move to Serie A for Billy Gilmour - are the latest club to approach Celtic over a price.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has already warned potential suitors that the Scottish champions won’t sell on the cheap, with the Parkhead club keen to execute a package close to £25million.

Atletico Madrid had an £18m offer rejected to January and have now turned their attentions to a £34m move for Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher.

O’Riley has since been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge as a replacement for the England international.

Brighton are asking Celtic to name their price for coveted midfielder O'Riley

O’Riley played in Celtic’s 4-0 win over Kilmarnock as Rodgers’s side opened their defence of the Premiership title on Sunday.

A £1.5m signing from Fulham, the midfielder has refused to rock the boat in search of a move, despite Rodgers warning clubs to ‘value the player, not the league.’

Rodgers said: ‘Obviously there are riches in other leagues much greater than ours that allows players to go and improve their conditions for their life, we all understand that.

‘What’s important for me is, if a player does leave her,e they pay the value for the player and that isn’t something that always happens.

‘No player will leave here unless it’s for the right valuation and, at this moment in time, there’s been no team that’s been anywhere near that.’
