Jamie Carragher has opened up on the one Manchester United player who he thinks is destined to be a superstar, with the former Liverpool defender claiming he 'loves watching the youngster play.'
Erik ten Hag's side kick off their Premier League campaign at Old Trafford on Friday night against Fulham, with United gunning to get their 2024-25 season off to a flying start.
Over the summer, questions have arisen over the future of two United midfielders, Scott McTominay and Casemiro.
Fulham have reportedly been keen to sign the Scottish midfielder, with Mail Sport understanding the London outfit have launched several bids for the United star. Speculation has also arisen over Casemiro's future at the club - with the Brazilian having underwhelmed last season.
Yet, one United midfielder, Kobbie Mainoo, is being backed to be the future of the club, with the 19-year-old England star receiving the plaudits of Carragher, Roy Keane and Gary Neville ahead of tonight's Premier League curtain raiser.
'I think he has been an absolute revelation. I love watching him play and what he did in the summer,' Carragher told Sky Sports.
'He came through last season, we were asking questions about United’s midfield. It was Casermiro needs a partner, now it’s Mainoo needs a partner. I think he is going to be a superstar.
Former Man United midfielder, Keane added: 'What he [Mainoo] has shown is a lot of maturity. He has to back it up, you are playing in the middle of the park for Man United.
'But he made it look very easy, his reading of the game and maturity. Hopefully he can back it up injury-free. I have been hugely impressed and fingers crossed.
While Neville concurred: 'He has handled big games from minute one. Cup finals, scoring in cup finals, big away games. He was the player in such a poor team that you could rely on.
'To then do what he did in the tournament, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Conor Gallagher had played there and he became the answer. What a mesmerising start, the only thing that can stop him is himself.'
