Chelsea set to apply for agent's £3m High Court claim to be quashed

Chelsea will apply to have agent Saif Rubie’s £3million High Court claim thrown out.

However, the west London club are moving to have the court proceedings quashed insisting the case has been filed incorrectly and should be dealt with by the Football Association through an arbitration.

The FA’s regulations say that ‘disputes arising out of, or in connection with, a Representation Agreement without an international dimension shall be exclusively determined between the parties under Rule K (Arbitration) of the Rules’.

However, Mail Sport understand that Rubie remains confident that he has filed the suit correctly because Granovskaia, since leaving Chelsea, is no longer a football ‘participant’ and therefore the FA’s rules do not apply.

A spokesman for Rubie said: ‘Chelsea and Ms Granovskaia have a clear interest in preventing [Rubie’s] claim from being heard in open court given current investigations into the club and its activities under its previous ownership.’

The Premier League are currently investigating possible breaches of their financial rules which are alleged to have taken place under Roman Abramovich’s reign.

Mail Sport revealed last week that the amount Rubie is claiming is in the region of £3million for his role in the transfer.

FIFA laws state that an agent acting on behalf of a selling club is entitled to up to 10 percent of the transfer fee.

Chelsea received a total of £29.1million when selling Zouma to their London rivals.

Earlier this year Rubie was acquitted of malicious communications in relation to an email sent to Granovskaia over a sum of money he said he was owed from the Zouma deal.
