Cornelia Kapocs scores 'goal of the season' as Liverpool beat Spurs

Cornelia Kapocs opened her account for Liverpool in style on Sunday by scoring with a stunning long-range lob in a 3-2 away win over Tottenham in the Women's Super League.

The 24-year-old Swedish forward - who joined the Reds from Linkoping in August - netted the first goal of her English football career in the 10th minute when she caught Spurs keeper Becky Spencer off her line from more than 30 yards.

Kapocs intercepted a poor clearance by Spencer with a sweet first touch before setting herself and lifting a perfectly-weighted shot over the stranded stopper.

Sunday's game was broadcast on BBC Two, meaning hundreds of thousands of fans were watching live when Kapocs scored beautifully.

Many of those fans took to social media to express their awe.

One fan said it was a 'Hell of a finish'.

Another said it was the 'goal of the month', while a different fan went even further by adding: 'Month? Naaaah....Goal of the season, done n dusted!'

Sunday's game could have gone either way but the Reds eventually won it in added time thanks to a Marie Hobinger penalty kick.

A Taylor Hinds own goal in the 54th minute saw Tottenham equalise after Kapocs' brilliant opener.

Hobinger then scored her first of the game to restore Liverpool's lead on 75 minutes, only for Clare Hunt to draw Spurs level again.

But Hobinger's spot-kick in the fifth minute of added time ensured that Liverpool left London with all three points.

The result left Spurs seventh in the table, while Liverpool climbed to fifth after recording their first league win of the season.
