Ederson pulls off daring backheel in Man City's clash with Newcastle

Ederson pulled off a remarkable piece of skill as Manchester City travelled to Newcastle on Saturday.

The Brazilian has long been recognised for his exceptional skill with the ball at his feet and has served as an integral component of Pep Guardiola's all-conquering side since his arrival in 2017.

As further proof of his prowess on the ball, since arriving in England Ederson has made four assists, leaving him second in the Premier League's all-time standings.

In the first half of City's clash with Newcastle, Ederson received the ball outside of his own box as Anthony Gordon charged him down with the game level at 0-0.

Clearly unphased by the onrushing forward, the goalkeeper cooly backheeled the ball to safety.

While he remained composed throughout the sequence, the same could not be said for Guardiola as he watched on from the touchline.

As the television cameras panned over to the manager he appeared entirely exasperated at Ederson's nonchalance on the ball.

While his manager clearly wasn't too excited about Ederson's antics, the incident proved hugely popular among supporters on social media.

A third wrote: 'It feels weird to say “stop that, Ederson!” without making it sound like fairly obvious advice for a goalkeeper. What a backheel it was, by the way.'

The sequence proved to be a big hit with fans online, as they hailed Ederson's ball playing skills

Guardiola's mood would be lifted shortly after as Josko Gvardiol fired the Premier League champions into the lead at St James' Park.

City were pegged back early in the second half however, as Gordon netted from the spot after Ederson brought down the England international.
