Erik ten Hag and Roy Keane share awkward exchange after Man United win

Man United boss Erik ten Hag and Roy Keane shared an awkward exchange after their opening day win over Fulham, with the former club captain issuing a light-hearted warning to the Dutchman.

The Red Devils began their Premier League campaign with a narrow 1-0 win over Fulham at Old Trafford.

New signing Joshua Zirkzee came off the bench to score the 87th minute winner, with the £36.5m striker ensuring Man United made the ideal start to the new season.

Man United boss Ten Hag will hope the victory launches an improved Premier League season having finished eighth last campaign.

Ten Hag was interviewed by Sky Sports post-match on the touchline at Old Trafford, joining former club captains Keane and Gary Neville, as well as ex-Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher.

Keane warned 'I'll be waiting' after the Man United boss joked the former club captain did not want to 'spoil the vibes' following their opening day victory over Fulham

Sky Sports presenter Kelly Cates asked Keane if he wanted to add anything following Ten Hag's post-match interview.

Keane responded by saying he was 'just listening, before adding 'There's a good vibe going on'.

Ten Hag quickly joked 'Oh, you don't want to spoil the vibes, no?', placing a hand on Keane's shoulder amid a light hearted exchange.

Keane, who was a vocal critic last season amid Man United's struggles, responded 'Not tonight, next week, next week.'

After Ten Hag replied 'I know, thank you', before Keane ominously warned 'I'll be waiting, before adding 'Just keep winning, it's easy, it'll be no problem'.

Ten Hag replied 'It's so simple' at the end of the back and forth with the former Man United captain turned pundit.

Man United fans on social media enjoyed the exchange between the pair, with one labelling Keane's quick response to Ten Hag as 'epic'.

‘The question is fantastic, the answer is epic,’ a fan said.

‘Keano loves bantering with Eric,' another wrote, with a third saying 'Great banter. They look like they have a good relationship.'

Others noted Ten Hag's approach in the exchange, suggesting the Man United boss was not 'more bullish' in response to pundits.

'Ever since the FA cup Ten Hag is been real bullish in interviews. I love it,' one said.

‘ETH is still mad with Roy about the FA Cup final post match interview. They need to have beers,' another claimed.

Ten Hag and Keane had a similarly light-hearted yet awkward exchange after Man United's FA Cup final win over Man City at the end of last season.

The Man United boss had quipped that that Keane 'had trouble to manage a team', noting the Irishman's own managerial record.

The comment appeared to be a reference to Keane's criticism of Man United throughout a difficult season.

Ten Hag had hit back a pundits following the triumph at Wembley, which came ahead of the club deciding to extend his contract by a further 12 months.
