Ex-Manchester United cult hero looks unrecognisable a golf event

Former Manchester United stars gathered for a golf event last month, with several looking markedly different to their playing days, though the changed appearance of one former icon was particularly stark.

Among them was Jaap Stam, Paul Parker, Brian McClair, Keith Gillespie, Frank Stapleton, Lee Martin, Chris Eagles and Eric Djemba Djemba. The ex-Red Devils travelled to Donegal, Ireland for a host of fundraising events.

Included was a round of golf at the Rosapenna Golf Club and with spirits high, the former United stars posed for a photo as they presumably reminisced on days turning out at Old Trafford.

Eagles posted a few of the images on his Instagram account which had many struggling to identify another former winger who won the Premier League with the club in 1997.

No longer sporting the shaggy mop of hair during his playing days, the Czechia star is none other than Karel Poborsky.

The winger shot to fame after scoring a stunning goal for Czechia on their way to the final of Euro 96

The former winger changed his look after leaving the Premier League, keeping the long locks during his spell at Lazio but then chopping them off shortly after signing for Sparta Prague in 2002.

Poborsky played for two seasons at Old Trafford, starting 15 games and scoring four goals as Sir Alex Ferguson's side won the title in the 1996-97 season.

He started just two games the next season before departing for Benfica.

Poborsky revealed in 2019 he was one day from dying three years earlier from a brain infection. He was hospitalized and induced into a coma, though he still does not know the cause of the illness.

The 52-year-old linked up with a group of United players linked up back in August for a Masters match last January.
