England beat Finland 3-1 in the Nations League on Sunday evening but things could have been very different were it not for a horror miss from one Finn.
The Three Lions were leading the game 1-0 thanks to a goal from Jack Grealish when the hosts almost drew themselves level 10 minutes into the second half.
A ball from the left made its way across the England area and reached Fredrik Jensen on the edge of the six-yard box.
He looked destined to put the ball into the open net with goalkeeper Dean Henderson stranded at his near post.
However, the midfielder proceeded to shank the bouncing ball over the crossbar, giving the visitors a reprieve.
Fredrik Jensen (2nd right) missed a golden chance to level the scores against England
Jensen held his head in his hands after the miss while ITV match commentator Lee Dixon labelled it an 'absolute sitter'.
England went on to make their opponents pay with Trent Alexander-Arnold scoring a brilliant free-kick before Declan Rice made it three from close range.
Arttu Hoskonen headed home a late consolation for the Nordic hosts, but Carsley’s men saw out an important result ahead of next month’s trip to Athens as they seek an immediate return to the Nations League top tier.
England had been reeling from Thursday’s shock defeat to Greece at Wembley and knew they could ill afford a slip up against the lowest ranked side in Group B2.
Interim manager Lee Carsley made six changes from the 2-1 defeat by the Greeks at Wembley, with captain Harry Kane back from injury. He also returned to a more conventional formation after his experimental lineup without a main striker failed.
