German outlet aims light-hearted dig at Lionesses after Wembley clash

A German media outlet has aimed a lighthearted dig at the Lionesses following the clash at Wembley on Friday night.

After the game DW Sports posted a graphic pointing out Germany's impressive record against England.

The post was accompanied by the caption: 'Is it really a 'rivalry' if the records always favor you?'.

The graphic showed that in games between the two nations, England have registered just three wins, while there have been four draws and Germany have won on 22 occasions.

Germany took the lead after just four minutes on Friday, with Giulia Gwinn scoring a penalty.

Gwinn then added another goal having been set up by Klara Buhl. Following that, Buhl found the net herself to inflict more misery on England and make it 3-0 to Germany.

Lauren Hemp looks dejected, with England's struggles against Germany continuing

England looked to stage a fightback with Georgia Stanway on target from the penalty spot before she scored again before half time.

Germany got their fourth goal in the 72nd minute as Sara Dabritz became the latest player to score a penalty. Although Lucy Bronze scored late on for England, it was Germany who secured victory.

It was a frustrating night for England, who will aim to bounce back next week when they host South Africa in Coventry in another friendly.

Despite their disappointing record against Germany overall, England won 2-1 against them to secure victory in the final of the European Championship in 2022.
