Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1 introduces audiences to an epic drama that takes place during the four years of the Civil War -- from 1861 to 1865. The movie, which is the first of four chapters, follows the journey through the lens of families, friends and foes all striving to find out what the United States of America is, and what it will become.
The three-hour cowboy drama is set to premiere on Max on Friday, Aug. 23.

Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 2 was originally supposed to premiere in theaters on Aug. 16, but because of Chapter 1's lackluster box office returns, the movie has been delayed. The sequel's premiere at the Venice Film Festival could dictate the future of Costner's long-gestating franchise.
