Jamie Redknapp claims Erling Haaland is 'beauty and the beast'

Last season's golden boot winner is aiming to win the individual accolade for being the Premier League's top scorer for a third consecutive season and has started the new campaign in sensational form.

His three-goal haul at the London Stadium moves the Norwegian onto seven strikes from just three top-flight appearances, as City attempt to become the first-ever team to win five consecutive league titles.

Haaland is a rarity amongst the Premier League's best as Norway's failure to qualify for Euro 2024 meant he was given an extended summer break while the majority of City's European stars played in the competition.

The break appears to have been the best thing for the 24-year-old who is already wreaking havoc on opposition defenders who are struggling to stop Haaland's goalscoring run.

For City's opening goal against the Hammers, Haaland played through on goal by Bernardo Silva and subsequently scoring with a dink over the goalkeeper.

Haaland's second strike was far more spectacular as he took a touch in the box before smashing an unstoppable shot through a crowded penalty area and into the roof of the net.

Redknapp raved over Haaland's first-half showing against Julen Lopetegui's side and marvelled over his clinical finishing.

'What I've loved about his performance today is his first touch. For the first goal it allows him to open up his body and roll it into the corner,' he told Sky Sports.

Former Liverpool star, Redknapp, raved over Haaland's first-half showing against West Ham

'For the second goal, his right foot chops it back onto his left foot and that enabled him to hit.

'The first goal was a thing of beauty. That was a beast. Beauty and the beast today,' added Redknapp.

Meanwhile, ex-City full-back, Richards, echoed similar praise as he claimed Haaland is benefitting from being given the summer to relax and re-energise.

'I think the break in the summer did him a world of good. His energy, his body language has been outstanding,' said Richards.
