Destination: Wembley Stadium

How are you getting to the game today?

Manchester United fan Luke is jetting in from Italy to make it for 3pm... let's hope he's not held up trying to navigate the airport once he lands!

Safe travels all...

Man City are NOT in a rush for signings

That's according to boss Pep Guardiola, who addressed journalists at City's media base on Friday.

Find out his reasoning as to why it's zen amid Man United and Arsenal's transfer activity below...

Countdown to kick-off

Thankfully for me, you and anyone else following this game today - whether at Wembley or from home - we won't have such a dizzying view of the pristine Wembley surface today.

I can't look at that fisheye picture for too long, not sure about you!

Jack Grealish fitness update

There has been a report on Jack Grealish's fitness ahead of today's Manchester derby... and it's not making good reading for Man City fans.

Joshua Zirkzee ready for Man United debut

Joshua Zirkzee made the move to Manchester United this summer in a £35.8million switch from Bologna - and he could make his debut today.

With the Netherlands enjoying a deep run at Euro 2024, Zirkzee did not link up with United on their pre-season tour and has spent much of his off-season with the club working individually back at Carrington.

But he has travelled with the squad today with first choice striker Rasmus Hojlund sidelined and is in line to feature for his new club for the first time.

Here is what Ten Hag said about him on Friday:

I think he can [feature],” Ten Hag told MUTV. 'He is really hungry to do this because he is looking forward and he is also very excited to be coming into the Premier League.
To come to Manchester United and on his first occasion go to Wembley, of course that will highly motivate him, that's for sure.
But he is also short in training, he had a break, he trained individually but he has now had a couple of days in the team training.

Community Shield fever hits Wembley

The merchandise sellers on the walk up to Wembley have been up early and are looking to do a roaring trade today.

Not sure those half-and-half scarves will be flying off the pegs though...

How did Man United's pre-season go?

Manchester United's youngsters kickstarted pre-season in Norway and irked Erik ten Hag with their effort... before ending it in Columbia, South Carolina, by being turned over comfortably by bitter rivals Liverpool.

There have been some bright spots - the form of Mason Mount and teenage full-back Harry Amass chief among them - but they are still underdogs heading into today's contest.

Here is how their pre-season played out:

  • Rosenborg 1-0 Manchester United
  • Rangers 0-2 Manchester United
  • Arsenal 2-1 Manchester United
  • Manchester United 3-2 Real Betis
  • Liverpool 3-0 Manchester United

How did Man City's pre-season go?

With so many of their star names on extended breaks after Euro 2024 and Copa America involvement, Man City had a pre-season that was more of a chance for Pep Guardiola to get to work with some of the club's promising young prospects.

Here are the results of their four matches while away on tour:

  • Man City 3-4 Celtic
  • Man City 2-3 AC Milan
  • Barcelona 2-2 Man City
  • Man City 4-2 Chelsea

Man United v Man City Head to Head

Here is how the two old rivals stack up in Manchester derby matches...

Man City's bid to become America's No 1 team

My colleague Jack Gaughan will be joining me at Wembley very shortly but while he makes his way over, this is well worth some time pre-match on how Manchester City used their US tour as a building block to becoming the No 1 team in America.

Jack was with City in North Carolina and New York this summer and saw home City mania - and specifically Jack Grealish mania - was sweeping the nation.

How do Man United and Man City compare?

Big thank you to the guys over at SofaScore for compiling this graphic on how the two sides stack up.

Manchester City were Premier League champions for the fourth season in a row last time out and Manchester United endured a pretty miserable year in Erik ten Hag's second season.

One thing United MUST do a lot better this season is stop giving up so many shots on their own goal. Andre Onana can only do so much...

Man United's defensive dilemma

I was at Erik ten Hag's press conference on Thursday and he probably felt a sense of deja vu to be talking about mounting injuries - especially in defence.

Bring on the Manchester derby!

We have had the European Championships, Wimbledon, The Open, and the Olympic Games is now drawing to a close... that means it is time for the curtain raiser to the new football season.

Hello and welcome to Wembley Stadium where I will be bringing you all of the news and updates as Manchester United take on Manchester City in the Community Shield.

It was Manchester United that defeated Pep Guardiola's City side at this very ground in the FA Cup final earlier year to book this August 10 reunion - will lightning strike twice for Erik ten Hag and United?
