Man United 'set to offer new long-term deal to rising star'

Manchester United are keen to tie down one of their rising stars to a long-term contract, according to reports.

Erik ten Hag's men have endured a mixed start to the season after taking six points from their opening four league matches, but there have been some standout individual performances in the first month of the campaign.

And one player who has caught the eye is now set to be rewarded with the offer of a new deal.

United are ready to hand young winger Amad Diallo, 22, a new contract in the coming months, as reported by Manchester Evening News.

Amad is into the final year of his current contract, but United have no interest in letting him leave for free next summer after his impressive start to the season.

He has started three of the Red Devils' four games to date, registering a goal and an assist.

His assist came in United's most recent outing as they returned to winning ways after back-to-back defeats with a 3-0 victory over Southampton on Saturday.

Ten Hag has preferred Amad over fellow youngster Alejandro Garnacho for the majority of United's games this term, and clearly views the Ivorian as part of his long-term plans at Old Trafford.

Amad joined United from Atalanta for £37m in January 2021, but initially struggled for game time and was sent out on loan to Rangers and Sunderland in successive seasons.

He was restricted to nine league appearances last season, but appears to have now made a breakthrough into the first team in recent weeks after enjoying a strong pre-season.

Amad could be in action once again tonight when United host Barnsley in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Ten Hag won his first piece of silverware at United by lifting the Carabao Cup in the 2022-23 season, but United were knocked out in the round of 16 last year by Newcastle.

Amad and Co will be aiming to avoid another early exit tonight, before their next league match at Crystal Palace on Saturday.
