Nectar Luxe Hybrid

Pros

  • Hybrid design is supportive enough to handle all body types
  • Great for those who prefer a dense memory foam feel
  • Reinforced coils along the perimeter provide great edge support
  • Softer profile is perfect for strict side sleepers

Cons

  • Not for those who prefer neutral foam beds
  • Not the best option for back and stomach sleeping
  • Not the most affordable bed for those on a strict budget

I've been testing online beds for the better part of a decade, and one of the main things I've noticed in this industry during that time is that mattress brands ebb and flow. Companies constantly alter their mattresses, releasing new lines of "upgraded beds" -- many of which we actually find to be downgrades.

Brands run a fine line when they refresh beds. You can either cut costs to make your mattress cheaper but then you sacrifice quality. You can make your bed more quality and premium, but then it becomes too expensive for the target demographic to afford. Oftentimes, brands come up short in their efforts to rebrand, but today, I'm pleased to say Nectar nailed its latest lineup refresh.

The new Nectar Luxe mattresses are by far some of the nicest memory foam beds I've ever tried. The Luxe Hybrid is now Nectar's most premium mattress, offering a pressure-relieving sleeping surface for strict side sleepers while providing a supportive foundation for all body types. In this review, I'll cover everything you should know about this bed before you buy it.

First impressions of the Nectar Luxe Hybrid

This new Nectar mattress ships to you for completely free, inside a big, cardboard box -- it's pretty easy to tell it's your Nectar bed, the box itself is like a giant logo. Once it arrives, all you need to do is unbox it, which is pretty easy to do solo, but even better if you have a friend there to help you. When we unboxed ours, we noticed a slight odor to the bed, but found it went away after a couple days.

It was also very soft right out of the box, so much so that we gave it a few nights to properly expand before testing it out. Once it was fully inflated, it had firmed up, but not by much. The mattress still felt quite soft, offering a pressure-relieving profile that's coupled with a nice amount of support from the pocketed coils on the bottom. This is definitely the softest bed I've ever tested from Nectar, bar none.

Nectar Luxe Hybrid mattress firmness and feel

What does the Nectar Luxe Hybrid feel like?

This bed definitely exhibits more of a dense memory foam feel, similar to something like a Tempur-Pedic mattress. Compared to that style of bed, the Nectar Luxe Hybrid is slightly more responsive and light, mainly due to the responsiveness of the coils on the bottom. However, I do think it has more of a dense feel when compared to other responsive memory foam mattresses, like Layla for instance.

When you lie down on the Nectar Luxe Hybrid, you'll get plenty of body-conforming qualities and a lot of pressure relief for your shoulders and hips when side sleeping. That said, if you're more of a combination sleeper, it's responsive enough to make switching positions really easy -- some memory foam options can be restrictive in that regard.

How firm is the Nectar Luxe Hybrid mattress?

This is currently the softest bed that Nectar offers. We'd place it at a medium-soft on our firmness scale, so it's mainly best for accommodating the pressure relief needs of strict side sleepers. Combination sleepers can also get by on it, just so long as you enjoy a much softer style of memory foam mattress.

If you want a firmer style of Nectar bed, the Nectar Premier options both range around a medium give or take, so these options are more suitable for accommodating all sleep styles. The Nectar Classic beds provide much more rigid sleeping surfaces, perfect for primary back and stomach sleepers. Firmness-wise, Nectar has the whole spectrum covered.

Nectar Luxe Hybrid mattress construction

This is a premium memory foam hybrid bed with a relatively simple construction. It's 14 inches thick and comprised of the following layers:

1. On the bottom, you've got a thin layer of support foam that acts as a base for the bed's main support system of pocketed coils. Those coils are extra-reinforced along the edges to provide a sturdy perimeter.

2. Then, you've got a responsive transition foam to act as a buffer between the support and comfort layers of the bed. It even has a zoned-support feature to help keep your back aligned at night.

3. Above that, you've got the bed's main comfort layer. In this case, it's around 3 inches of dense, viscous memory foam.

4. Rounding everything out is a breathable cooling cover with this intricate diamond pattern. It is noticeably cool to the touch, and even has an antimicrobial finish to help keep it clean.

Nectar Luxe Hybrid mattress performance

Motion isolation

We'd say this bed provides an exceptional amount of motion isolation, especially for a hybrid mattress. Instead of the support coils reverberating you or your partner's movements at night, they adapt with them, and the top layer of memory foam absorbs tons of nightly motion as well. The only bed I could see performing better at motion isolation would be a more premium option from Tempur-Pedic, but that's really splitting hairs -- this mattress is great for light sleepers.

Edge-to-edge support

Going along with motion isolation, the Nectar Luxe Hybrid also has excellent edge support. The two rows of coils that run along the bed's edges are made of reinforced steel, designed to provide the bed with a sturdy perimeter. If you or your partner likes to sleep close to the edges of your bed, willingly or unwillingly, you should experience plenty of support in this regard -- there's little to no roll-off sensation.

Temperature

The breathable cooling cover on this mattress does present sleepers with a nice active-cooling quality. Without your own bedding, I think both Nectar Luxe mattresses are on the cooling side. Once you put all that stuff on it though, I think it will perform temperature neutral. Still, it doesn't hurt to have a cooling cover like this if you're a hot sleeper.

Durability

Since this is a premium hybrid bed with reinforced edges, I'd say this bed is durable enough to last most couples for several years. In the long run, hybrid mattresses typically last a bit longer than all-foam beds just because support foams can degrade slightly faster than coils, especially underneath heavier people. Luckily, this bed's hybrid design should be durable enough to last all body types for the next 7-10 years -- and that's at the bare minimum.

Who is the Nectar Luxe Hybrid mattress best for?

Though the bed's design is durable enough to handle all body types, its much softer profile might not be ideal for all sleeping preferences. Here's who we think this bed is best for.

Sleeping position

Since this is a softer style of hybrid bed, we'd mainly recommend it primarily for side sleepers or combination sleepers who want a plush mattress. If you're a back or stomach sleeper who wants more support from your bed, this might not be the most suitable option for you. Instead, you might want to check out the Nectar Classic beds. Some back and stomach sleepers prefer softer options, so if that sounds like you, it could also be worth considering.

Body type

As mentioned, the construction of this bed makes it supportive enough to handle all body types, including heavier people. If you're more petite or average-sized, you could also get by on the Nectar Luxe Hybrid, but the level of support could also be overkill for you. In that case, you could save some money by going with the all-foam version.

Nectar Luxe Hybrid mattress pricing

SizeMeasurements (inches)Price
Twin38x75 inches$1,474
Twin XL38x80 inches$1,589
Full54x75 inches$1,948
Queen60x80 inches$2,076
King76x80 inches$2,538
Cal King72x84 inches$2,538

Speaking of saving money, this is a premium hybrid bed that's usually offered at a pretty reasonable price point after discount. After one is applied to the queen size, you can expect to pay around $1,400.

Nectar usually offers cash discounts on its mattresses year round, and depending on the time of year you decide to buy, you could also score yourself a free sleep bundle with the purchase of your bed.

Trial, shipping and warranty

Nectar backs this bed with some of the most generous policies found within the online mattress space. Its beds ship to you in a box for free, and once it's in your possession, you get a 365-night trial period to try it at home risk-free. If you happen to not like it within that time frame, you can return it for free. On the other hand, if you decide to keep it, you're backed by a forever warranty. Just be sure to use the right foundation for the bed. Otherwise, you could void your bed's warranty.

How does Nectar Luxe Hybrid compare to other mattresses?

Nectar Luxe Hybrid vs. Nectar Luxe Memory Foam

These are now the top-tier mattresses within Nectar's lineup. Both feature a very similar dense memory foam feel and noticeably cool-to-the-touch covers. The main difference between them has to do with support and firmness. The Luxe Hybrid obviously has support coils, whereas the Luxe Memory Foam has dense foam for support. This makes the Hybrid version more supportive and durable for heavier people long-term. Additionally, the Luxe Hybrid is also slightly softer at a proper medium-soft. However, in regard to price, the Luxe Memory Foam is the more affordable option.

Nectar Luxe Hybrid vs. Casper Snow Hybrid

When it comes to comparing two of the most popular and premium memory foam mattresses online, there's a lot to consider. Both feature active-cooling elements in their constructions and have a dense memory foam feel overall. Again, the differences show up when taking a look at each bed's specific design, firmness level and price point. Both beds have cooling covers, but the cooling features of the Casper Snow Hybrid are more prominent and noticeable. The Casper Snow is also considerably firmer than the Luxe Memory Foam, making it the better memory foam option for back and stomach sleepers. However, side sleepers looking for a more affordable option will likely prefer the Nectar Luxe Hybrid.

The final verdict

This new Nectar redesign honestly caught me by surprise. You can really tell the brand took its time with this new lineup and paid attention to detail. You can even see it in things like the bed's semi-elastic side handles.

The Nectar Luxe Hybrid is a great mattress for those who want a supportive coil option with a memory foam feel that's much softer for accommodating primary side sleepers. Also, if you want a bed with things like zoned support and a cooling cover, you can't go wrong here. Even though it's the most expensive bed from Nectar, I think you'll be spending up for a super quality mattress.

You might like the Nectar Luxe Hybrid mattress if:

  • You want a supportive hybrid mattress
  • You want a dense memory foam feel
  • You like a bed that's softer for side sleeping
  • You want a bed with a cooling cover

You might not like the Nectar Luxe Hybrid bed if:

  • You're looking for an all-foam mattress
  • You prefer the feel of a neutral or latex foam mattress
  • You're on a super strict budget

What is zoned support?

Zoned support is basically a support system within a mattress to help keep your back in a neutral alignment while you sleep. In this case, zoned support is found within the transition layer of the Nectar Luxe Hybrid mattress. It's very subtle, but it will help to keep your back properly aligned at night. This gives you support under your lower back where you need it and pressure relief to the other areas of your body. If you have chronic back pain, it's a great feature to have in your next bed.

Can you flip a Nectar mattress?

Sadly, you cannot flip any of the new Nectar mattresses. There are many beds within the online space that are double-sided, which is kinda cool -- who doesn't want two beds in one? Many options, like the Layla and Plank beds, are flippable and definitely worth your consideration.

How long do Nectar mattresses last?

Being a premium hybrid bed, the Nectar Luxe Hybrid should last you for at least seven to 10 years, if not much longer. Hybrid beds are often thought to last longer than all-foam beds since steel coils last longer support-wise over time. For that reason alone, this bed should last you for many years to come, regardless of body type.
