Revealed: When Thomas Tuchel's first game as England manager will be

Thomas Tuchel agreed to become the new England head coach on Tuesday night, as the Football Association took a massive step toward appointing a permanent successor to Gareth Southgate.

Tuchel has been out of work since last summer when he departed Bayern Munich at the end of a 2023-24 campaign that saw the Bavarian titans fail to win a single trophy.

He has now agreed to take over from England Under-21s boss Lee Carsley, who has been in interim charge of the senior side since Southgate's departure.

Carsley has overseen the first four of England's Nations League games against Greece, Finland and Republic of Ireland, but he is set to see out the rest of the campaign, with two more games slated for November.

Following the end of the tournament, Tuchel will then assume command from January 2025, and will take charge of his first England games  in the March international break.

Lee Carsley has been in charge of the Three Lions on an interim basis since Gareth Southgate's departure

Following the conclusion of the Nations League competition England's next round of games will be between March 21 and March 22, with the second round to take place March 24-25.

Those games will mark the start of World Cup qualification for any team drawn in a group of five teams, and games three and four of that campaign will come between June 6 and June 10.

Nations not in five-team groups will still most likely play in those windows, but in friendly clashes.

Any country in a group of four will play their first qualification games on September 4-6 and second on September 7-9.

The final four games will then take place between October 9 and November 18 2025, by which point the Three Lions will hope to have secured their spot in the World Cup the following summer.

Tuchel has agreed to become the next England boss and will take over one of the most promising squads on the continent.

He will inherit a side that has reached the last two European Championship finals, as well as a World Cup semi-final and quarter-final.

With Tuchel's history of top level tactical knowledge and ability to win cup competitions - having lifted trophies with clubs in Germany, England and France - the Football Association will feel that he can bring success to the Three Lions.
