On the news that Thomas Tuchel had signed his contract on October 8, Mail Sport's Ian Ladyman said:

The revelation by the FA that Tuchel signed his contract on October 8 certainly puts some of Lee Carsley’s press conference meanderings in to welcome context. Can’t have been easy for Carsley, that. And it clearly wasn’t.

So there we have it, it is now officially official. Thomas Tuchel will take over as England manager starting in 2025.

In a statement FA ceo Mark Bullingham said: 'We are thrilled to have hired Thomas Tuchel, one of the best coaches in the world and Anthony Barry, one of the best English coaches to support him.

'Our recruitment process has been very thorough. Before the Euros we had a contigency plan and outlined exactly the qualities we would be looking for in a coach.

'Since Gareth resigned, we have worked through the candidate pool, meeting a number of coaches and evaluating them against that criteria.

'Thomas was very impressive and stood out with his vast expertise and his drive. Anthony is a top English talent and also has international experience with Republic of Irelan, Belgium and Portugal.

  • Tuchel is expected to fly to England this week to finalise the deal and sign his £5million-a-year deal.
  • Today at 1:30pm England will hold a press conference led by Mark Bullingham to unveil the new Three Lions boss.

What did Harry Kane think?

England's captain Harry Kane has already worked with Thomas Tuchel during his time at Bayern Munich, so if anyone was well placed to speak about the incoming England boss it would be Kane.

When asked about the potential appointment bu Sky Sports, he said: 'Obviously I know Thomas well from last year and (he's a) fantastic coach, fantastic person, so I'm sure the guys at the FA will contact me when they know more about it.'
