Revealed: Why Ryan Kent's contract at Fenerbahce was cancelled

Ryan Kent's contract at Fenerbahce was cancelled by mutual consent after the Turkish club became aware that his situation was heading to the Court of Arbitration for Sport over his treatment.

The 27-year old forward had been forced to train alone after falling out with previous coach Ismail Kartal, even undertaking gym sessions on his own. The club’s board backed Kartal and Kent continued to be ostracised under new boss Jose Mourinho.

Despite signing a four-year deal after joining from Rangers in 2023, Kent managed just 10 starts, scoring one goal - on his full debut.

The former Liverpool and England U20 international had continued to maintain his fitness and trained to a professional standard to be available for selection but remained marginalised by Fenerbahce's coaching staff.

Frustrated by the ongoing situation, Mail Sport understands that he was ready to take his case to CAS and matters were subsequently brought to a mutually agreed conclusion last week.

Kent came through Liverpool's academy and managed one outing before joining Rangers, and moved to Fenerbahce over the summer

Clubs have been reminded in recent months about FIFA guidance that was clarified in 2022 where, under regulations and Article 14 (2), making a player train on their own could lead to a club engaging in 'abusive conduct'.

The matter was raised again by the PFA last summer in relation to Chelsea's so-called 'bomb squad'.

Kent had interest from the likes of Leeds United, Ipswich Town and Ajax in the summer while there is a clamour among Rangers fans for him to return to Ibrox to train initially with the hope he signs for them as a free agent when the transfer window opens in January.

However, it is understood he may choose to stay abroad with interest emerging from clubs in Saudi Arabia also.

Fenerbahce face Jose Mourinho's former club Manchester United in the Europa League on Thursday night.
