Beckham reveals why he did NOT enjoy making his Netflix documentary

David Beckham has admitted he did not enjoy making his critically-acclaimed Netflix documentary.

The four-part docuseries titled Beckham aired last year on Netflix and looked back on his glittering football career and highly-publicised relationship with former Spice Girl, Victoria.

It proved a hit with fans and critics alike, leading to it triumphing in the Documentary or Nonfiction Series category at the Emmy Awards earlier this month.

But Beckham has revealed that he had to get out of his comfort zone to go through with the successful project.

'It was one of those things I knew if I was gonna make it, I was gonna make it once… it was really difficult,' he said, as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter.

'It took me a long time to come to terms with the fact I was going to make it but there was a few reasons why we wanted to make it. Through the pandemic, that’s when documentaries really exploded.

'It was coming up to the 10-year anniversary of my retirement and I thought: "Maybe this is the right time".'

Beckham openly discussed some of his biggest moments on and off the pitch during the documentary as he reflected on his infamous red card against Argentina at the 1998 World Cup and being vilified by the public in the aftermath, while also addressing rumours that he was unfaithful to Victoria on multiple occasions since their marriage in 1999.

The former Manchester United star confessed that he and Victoria were both worried about opening up to the wider world, but insisted he was happy with the final outcome.

'I can’t lie, it worried me, it made me nervous, it made Victoria nervous,' he added.

'As much as people think they know everything about us, they don’t really. We don’t open the doors to our house but I knew it was the right time.

'I wouldn’t say I hated it, I just would say it was very difficult. We loved the results. But we were talking about things in my career that I’d never spoken about before.'

Beckham was back in the UK on Monday night to watch Birmingham City, alongside minority investor and NFL icon Tom Brady, face Wrexham at St Andrew's.

Owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, Wrexham have started the League One season well after back-to-back promotions, but it was Beckham and Brady who got the last laugh as Birmingham came from behind to win 3-1 and move level on points with their opponents at the top of the table.
