Wayne Rooney has been charged by the FA over improper conduct after he was sent off in Plymouth Argyle's weekend Championship win over Blackburn.
The former England and Man United captain is attempting to establish his management career in the second division and has endured a mixed start to the season with his Plymouth team mid-table.
Plymouth were adamant that there had been a foul in the build-up and Rooney seemingly said something to upset fourth official Jacob Miles, who informed referee James Linington.
Rooney was then shown red by Linington who refused to let the Plymouth manager escape without any punishment for his outburst.

The FA have now formally charged the 38-year-old over the matter and will give him until Tuesday, October 15 to respond should he wish to lodge an appeal.
A spokesperson cited Rooney's behaviour was allegedly improper and that he used abusive language towards a match official that led to him being dismissed.
It is also claimed that the Man United legend showed improper/and or violent behaviour after being sent off and later demonstrated an improper attitude by returning to the field of play.
Rooney later admitted that he deserved to be punished for his actions and is now expected to serve a match ban.
'It was my first time as a manager [getting sent off],' he told talkSPORT.
'I think as a manager or a head coach, decisions happen on the pitch and looking back, it's a free kick, so the goal shouldn't have stood.
'In the Championship you don't have VAR so the officials missed it and your emotions kick in and you know, I'm a passionate person, we want to win.
'We worked extremely hard to win the game and to have that taken away by what I feel was a mistake by the officials, I felt was really harsh. I reacted in a manner in which I shouldn't have and the red card was deserved,' added Rooney.
