Wilshere 'in talks to take up role at Championship promotion chasers'

Jack Wilshere is set to become a first-team coach at Championship outfit Norwich City, according to a report.

The former Arsenal star has held the position as Gunners Under 18s manager since 2022, shortly after he retired at the age of 30.

Wilshere, who came through the Arsenal academy before making 197 appearances for the club, led the youngsters to the FA Youth Cup final in his first season.

According to The Athletic, he is in advanced talks to relace Narcis Pelach at the Canaries, following the Spaniard's appointment as Stoke City head coach last month.

The outlet claim that Norwich are 'increasingly confident' the 32-year-old will join the side, though it may not be completed in time for their trip to the Bet365 Stadium on Saturday.

Jack Wilshere is reportedly in advanced talks to join Norwich City as a member of their backroom staff

The former Arsenal star is in line to effectively replace Narcis Pelach, who took over as Stoke City boss last month

Norwich currently lie seventh in the Championship and recorded a thumping 4-0 win over Hull City in their last outing

The move would see Wilshere reunite with Ben Knapper, Norwich’s sporting director who previously worked as Arsenal’s loans manager until October 2023.

Wilshere previously held talks with MLS side Colorado Raids about becoming their manager last October but decided to remain in north London.

He would be joining a side currently sat seventh in the Championship after nine games, having won four, drawn three and lost two of those outings. The Canaries are led by Johannes Hoff Thorup, who replaced David Wagner in the summer.

Wagner parted company with the side following their Championship play-off semi-final defeat by Leeds.

Wilshere told Mail Sport in August: 'I'd like to challenge myself and try and try and get as high as I can in first-team football.

Wilshere led Arsenal's U18s to the FA Youth Cup final in 2023, where they were soundly beaten by West Ham

'I have similar dreams in terms of what I want to do as a coach (to my playing career). I've got a supportive family that would potentially come wherever I wanted to go.

'But I'm also humble enough to know that I've got an education to go through, and I've got so many areas of self-development that I need to get better before that happens. But that's the dream, and I was successful with the first goal, so hopefully I've got the same mentality, the same motivation to be as successful as I was as a player.'
