Blockstream CEO Adam Back stated that quantum computers do not yet pose a practical threat to Bitcoin. However, he stressed the industry must begin preparing now, advocating for a decade-long window for Bitcoin holders to migrate their keys to quantum-resistant formats.

Back explained that current quantum hardware lacks sufficient error correction, aligning with recent analyses that frame quantum computing as a long-term risk. He highlighted ongoing post-quantum cryptography research and implementations, including work on Blockstream's Liquid network, as evidence that a gradual, coordinated transition is already in progress.
The primary challenge for the industry, according to Back, is not reacting to an imminent breakthrough but coordinating an orderly migration before the risk becomes urgent.
